KOKO HOTEL Nagoya Sakae South

Maybe we just got a good room, but I think the bad reviews don't do it justice. It was clean and odorless, with a comfortable bed and a pleasant stay. The room was a little narrow but soundproof. It wasn't that hot, you just need to turn off the heater.

The rooms are small but have everything you need, and the hotel is clean with excellent staff. It's right in Nagoya's awesome Sakae shopping district, with bars, museums, restaurants and stores nearby.

We had a good time in this fun location, with lots of great food choices and a fun arcade nearby. Our room was a bit cramped with luggage, but we managed. More than 4 bags would have made it impossible to move around.

In my two weeks in Nagoya, this was the worst hotel I've stayed at. I paid 16,500 yen per night x 3 nights, which felt unreasonable for the poor service and smelly room. The hotel seemed old-fashioned, with old carpet. The room smelled bad, and when I tried the air con to clear it, it didn't work. After only 5 mins, I asked to move to another room without a smell. The front desk ignored my request and refused a refund, even when I said I'd move to another hotel. The hotel's reply distorted what happened, claiming I asked to change to a bigger room. I didn't. I asked for a room without the smell. They didn't listen to the advice, check whether there was a problem in my room, address the odor or refund my money. They kept saying I requested a bigger room, which wasn't true. I thought I could forget this worst experience in Nagoya, but the reply has made me feel the hotel is worth nothing. I can't believe they would tell lies instead of accepting advice or dealing with the smelly problem. If I could, I'd give no stars. Whatever goes wrong, the staff just ignore it and won't refund guests even when it's the hotel's problem. Consider twice before booking this evil hotel. This is the big, and only, stain on my Nagoya trip, and my kind reminder to all travellers.
