Hotel Resol Sasebo

A good pick, especially during the week when rates are often very affordable. The location is perfect, right opposite the train station. The rooms are a little old but clean, and the bed is comfortable. Staff are friendly. Nothing really stands out, but nothing’s wrong either. A solid business hotel.

The Japanese breakfast in the morning was surprisingly tasty, especially the Sasebo signature lemon steaks. The beds were decent and the sheets were clean, so I managed to get some sleep. We arrived late, around 11pm, and two staff members greeted us and politely explained the facilities and breakfast arrangements. It’s a budget hotel, so I hadn’t expected much, but the room still disappointed me. It was narrow and not clean enough, and the air-conditioning couldn’t be adjusted. The bathroom was the worst part: the ventilator didn’t work, so it smelled, the bathtub drain was clogged, and the floor got slippery after a shower, which felt dangerous. The hotel is close to the JR station and bus stations.

It was easy to check in, and the location was convenient for the price. They also let us leave our luggage after checkout and pick it up later, free of charge. Breakfast was delicious, with generous portions, and the Costa coffee machine had hot and iced coffee and latte options. The one thing that bothered me was that in our two-bed room, my partner’s bed was much larger and softer than mine. Still, I’d stay here again for the service and convenience.

For a cheap hotel, I got a room for three because that was all they had left. It was big, with a coffee table, sofa, and three beds. The beds were average, not too soft, and the towels were fresh. The room was dim and could use brighter lights, and the sofa was old. The carpet and bathrooms were small and dated, and my bathroom kept flooding when I used the tub. The air conditioner was weak, but it did make the room a bit cooler in peak summer. There are lots of meeting rooms and public areas on different floors, and personal care items are at the lobby. Staff were friendly and spoke English. There’s no laundry in the hotel, so you have to walk about five minutes uphill to another location. The air freshener on the first floor was so strong it hurt my nose. I stayed five nights.
