Richmond Hotel Nagoya Nayabashi

The half-buffet breakfast was good value, with a main dish plus as much as you wanted from the buffet, and the food was plentiful and tasty. The room was a little cramped for two, though that’s typical in my experience of Japan. Bath essentials, a hair dryer, and a handy multi-port charging cable were provided. The lobby toiletries station had lots of useful things that are easy to forget, and its little skincare sachets helped when my skin unexpectedly got very dry. The stay itself was pleasant and comfortable, but I gave an average rating because of a strange check-in experience. My husband and I were told we’d booked a smoking room. Thinking we’d made a mistake, we asked to upgrade, but were told no rooms were left. A staff member went to the back, presumably to speak with a manager, and they then found us a non-smoking room. We appreciated it. The next day, when my parents arrived and I helped them check in, they were told they’d booked a non-smoking room but would have to take a smoking one because none were available. The staff member seemed to notice their displeasure and then found a non-smoking room, saying it was bigger. I went with them and it was the same size as ours, cramped for two. Having seen this happen twice, it seemed to me like they go through this routine to fix a problem that isn’t really there, making you feel grateful for their help. It’s mostly harmless, but it leaves you unsettled at the start. I wouldn’t rule out staying again since the stay was good, though an equivalent hotel nearby could easily sway me. We didn’t appreciate the scheme.

The location was great, on a quiet street but within walking distance of the station and lots of restaurants and shops. There’s also a bus stop right in front, which could make things easy if you know how to use the buses. I walked 15 minutes from Nagoya station. That was pleasant without heavy luggage, but it could be tricky if you’re carrying a lot. They also helped send my heavy luggage on to my next hotel using Yamato Transport. I stayed three nights and was very happy, especially with the friendly, helpful staff. The room was adequate, a little more spacious than a typical Japanese business room. Nothing stood out, but everything worked and was well maintained. I’d happily stay again.

The staff are really friendly and know enough English vocabulary that it’s easy to communicate with them.

The staff were friendly and accommodating, and very helpful when we had questions. The rooms were clean and tidy, with a spacious bathroom. The hotel is convenient for the subway, restaurants, nearby attractions, and tourist spots. Highly recommended.
