Hotel Merciel Tsuji

A quiet, clean apartment, but the litter box was too small and wasn’t emptied during the stay. The mattress was sagging and very soft.

202010 For the price and location, this was good value. The room wasn’t especially spacious, but having the bathroom separate from the toilet made it adequate for one person. It was reasonably clean, and check-in was elsewhere, just a one or two minute walk away, so that was fine. The air conditioning in my first assigned room didn’t work. I wonder whether staff check it each time. They moved me to another room, where dirty indoor slippers had been left under the fire extinguisher, so I couldn’t use it, and there were no other slippers. Both plastic cups were cracked, and one leaked. I wonder if they’re particular about cracks. I wish they’d shown at least basic hospitality. I like Okinawa’s relaxed attitude, but this sort of unexplained laxness isn’t needed. If you can overlook those issues, it’s a usable place to stay.

I booked by phone on the day and paid 3,400 yen per night for a double room for two people. It seems they use a room in an apartment building as a hotel. The room was a clean one-room apartment, and at that low price I wouldn’t mind staying a few days. The reception was somewhere else, which was a bit of a hassle. The nearest station is about a 15-minute walk away, so keep that in mind.
