The building is more than 60 years old, but it feels warm and homey rather than uncomfortable, and it's very clean despite its age. It's also conveniently close to the train station. I stayed on a rainy day and was impressed by the warm hospitality. You can tell they really care about making guests comfortable.

The owners were so kind and did everything they could to make the stay pleasant. Henmi Ryokan itself is lovely and very clean, and the location is ideal, close to the train station and about a 20-minute walk from the Motomachi district. I spent two nights there and was thrilled to have my first stay at a traditional Japanese inn. It was perfect. 🥰

I stayed one night on 7 December 2025 and was the only guest, so everything went smoothly. The inn is run by the landlady's family. They aren't comfortable with English, but did their best to communicate using Google translate. The traditional facilities were comfortable, and they kindly prepared a hot tub for me. It's not too far from the morning market, and also works if you want an early breakfast or a stroll around the red brick warehouse.

The owner, Hasegawa San, doesn't speak English, but does her very best to make guests comfortable. This traditional Japanese inn is just steps from Hakodate train station. There's a lovely shared space on the first floor, along with the communal bathroom and toilets. Guest rooms are upstairs on the second floor, where there's another toilet too. I'd stay again.

The owner was super nice, and I loved the cozy room and the atmosphere at Henmi ryokan. It’s a traditional inn from the Showa period. I had a wonderful stay and will definitely come back next time I’m in Hokkaido.
