Bougakusou

The baths have been renovated, and I appreciated the barrier-free design, even though there are fewer tubs than before. I came for a day trip to enjoy the hot springs. They also sell locally produced goods that look delicious. One suggestion: clean the hair dryer filters regularly. I cleaned one myself.

Used in April 2026. The Southern Shinshu country cuisine course was well balanced and flavorful, with generous portions. Goheimochi and zaru soba were served in place of rice, and general guests use the same dining room. My room was spacious and Japanese-style, on the west side of the first floor with a good view. The futon was already laid out, and a yukata was provided, though no tanzen. Wi-Fi was available only when open. The artificial hot spring is used often by locals. There were no free drinks, but hotel guests get free admission to the Bee Museum.

I’d especially recommend Hinoki restaurant. The servings were generous and the food was delicious. A great fit for a short trip to Southern Shinshu.
