The Kame room was spacious, with tatami floors and its own private onsen. I took three or four dips a day, including one at 3 AM to help me fall back asleep. The baths helped me relax after a busy Tokyo leg and get over jet lag. I even got to soak while it was snowing. Getting there was simple. My one-night stay included the express bus from Tokyo station to Shima onsen. It left Tokyo at 8:50 AM and reached Shimaonsen at 12:20 PM. The return bus leaves Shimaonsen at 1:40 PM and gets to Tokyo station at 5:20 PM. Its stop in Shima is about 150 meters from Kashiwaya ryokan. Dinner and breakfast were fantastic, with around ten courses each. I requested vegan meals with no fish or meat, and the dishes let me experience local cuisine and culture. Service was incredible too. Several staff speak English and were very responsive. Shima is a lovely town, and I enjoyed the countryside. The ryokan offers free bicycle rentals, so it's easy to ride up to the town center. I'll stay here again when I'm back in Japan.

Our honeymoon stay in the lovely Kame room was made even better by the kind, welcoming staff. Our server, Sakura, was especially friendly and always smiling. The room was beautiful, with its own little open-air onsen. I took a dip whenever I could. It was such a fun, memorable stay, definitely a 10/10. Thank you so much!

After eight days in Tokyo, this was a much-needed break. The staff were so kind to us as foreigners, and having a native English speaker there was really helpful. Sofia was especially pleasant and thoughtful, going above and beyond to make us comfortable. The vegan food was amazing too. We'll definitely recommend the place to others.

The vegan food was delicious and filling, and there was plenty of yukata choice, in different sizes and designs for everyone. You can also choose from several private outdoor onsens, each with its own design, as well as an indoor public bath. The multilingual staff were very kind and helpful with things like train schedules. The stay was peaceful and tranquil. It's a little secluded from the nearest town, with no convenience store for miles, but getting here from Tokyo was quite easy.

The onsen and food were lovely, and the rooms were clean and nice. Shima's surrounding nature is breathtakingly quiet. My only criticism is that the windows don't seal very well. We came in late autumn, and it got pretty cold without the AC heating.
