Pension Gusuku

The garden outside our room was a lovely place to sit with a beer at night, smoke, and watch the barringtonia and hibiscus under a sky full of stars. It was quiet, and the room itself was clean, comfortable, and had high ceilings. We stayed two nights in June and found the place on Google Maps while looking for somewhere near the ocean. The clear water was an easy walk away, not crowded, and we went swimming several times. The shower by the entrance was handy for rinsing off the sand, and my husband was pleased with the strong pressure and its three settings. He said the most forceful setting was about an 8 out of 10, like a painful gym shower, just what he likes. Staff were friendly, and both dinner and breakfast were delicious. There's a convenience store a few minutes away by car, while Cape Hedo is about an hour's drive. On our first visit to Yanbaru National Park, we got to enjoy the outdoors, and I also joined the owner's local friends for a beach outing. I had a surprisingly fun time picking up Okinawan dialect and playing basketball in the dark with the kids. We both had a wonderful stay and would love to come back. Highly recommend it.

Having two washing machines and a dryer in a separate building was a real help since I packed very few clothes. The bathroom was roomy, shower pressure was great, and the amenities felt gentle on my skin. I was also asked about food allergies, which I appreciated. Breakfast from the next-door Cafe & Bistro Ajijukusha was so good I finished it in one go. We ordered dinner to the room ahead of time, and I polished off the pizza and chicken confit too. The owners of both Pension GUSUKU and Cafe & Bistro Ajijukusha were lovely, with warm, genuine smiles. Their little poster girl, San, was adorable, and watching how much she loved her mother made me smile. The pension has a relaxed, home-like feel, with simple, comfortable rooms and a well-kept garden overlooking Nakijin Village. At night, the stars were a treat. The owner's warm personality comes through in the rooms. Everything made me happy, and I'd happily stay again, next time for several nights with a friend. I'd also like to have a drink and eat at the restaurant next time.

A really relaxing pension. I think the beach just a short walk away is the most beautiful on the main island.
