Manpa Resort

Aside from the meals, the rest of our stay was good, and the suite itself was new and had a stunning view. We were there with family in November 2025, having booked the best suite with a private onsen. But the dining service was far below standard. Dinner was in a private room. The staff member seemed rushed and brought the steak within 25 minutes, while we were still eating the appetizer. Everything was put on the table without much service. Our teapot was empty the whole time, so we had to ask for hot water. After refilling it, she took the pot away, leaving us to pour tea ourselves. I had expected the staff to help fill our cups too. I’d never had this kind of experience at an onsen hotel. The next morning, we had paid extra for upgraded breakfast items and ate in the same small private room. We spotted a cockroach in the corner and immediately called staff over. She came back with insect spray, but our breakfast sets were on the table and the room was small, so we stopped her. She left again, then a male staff member came and killed the cockroach. Nobody from the restaurant apologized. I hope you don’t have the same bad luck I did.

The only real drawback was the distance from the JR/Nankai station, though there’s a free shuttle once a day if you book ahead. The staff were accommodating and friendly, and tried to understand our requests in English. Our room had a spectacular full sea view and was clean and well maintained, as were the facilities. Dinner and breakfast were included in the room price and both were amazing. The chef uses fresh seasonal ingredients from local farmers and fishermen. We had a great time at Manpa resort.

The Japanese-style rooms have stunning sea views, and overnight guests can enjoy a lovely welcome lounge and free parking. There’s a traditional Japanese breakfast for an additional charge. The resort has public and private hot spring areas, with an extra fee for private bathing. Walk-in visitors can also use the hot springs for a fee, as can hotel guests.

We booked a room with a tub facing the ocean, and there’s also a private onsen bath available for an extra fee. The location and sea view are superb. Before dinner, it was lovely to sit in the lounge massage chairs and watch the sunset. The food was fair, and we were happy with the range of choices at the onsen resort since we didn’t need anything too elaborate.
