Kamenoi Hotel Nara

The room and dining were reasonably priced. We had a private bath in our room, and there’s also a large public bath, though it doesn’t have much of a view.

We chose a western-style room with a private bath because I have a tattoo and we wanted to enjoy the hot spring together. The bath was clean, well cared for, and pleasantly warm, and it was lovely to use whenever we felt like it. Our room was huge and had every amenity. The included breakfast and dinner were amazing, and the staff were kind and helpful. We spent the last two nights of our 12-night trip to Japan here, and it was a highlight. The stay was absolutely worth it and we’ll return. I only wish we’d planned more time in the area.

The dinner set was delicious, and the breakfast buffet had a good variety of satisfying options. Our room had all the amenities we needed, and the place was clean and well maintained. Staff welcomed us politely from the start, even though some knew only a little English. The restaurant team were just as courteous.

The service was exceptionally friendly, even though we couldn’t speak Japanese. One thing to know: while we were downstairs at dinner, staff entered the room to set up our futons. We hadn’t been told this would happen, but our things were left untouched. We had a big, beautiful, clean room with a private onsen and nice complimentary tea. The wood scent in the bath room added to the relaxing feel, though there wasn’t a special view. I’d expected our kaiseki dinner to be served in the room, but it was in the dining hall at a time slot we chose. That was still fine. It was lovely seeing other guests in yukatas, and we enjoyed trying the interesting dishes, even if we were too full to finish. Breakfast had an interesting selection too.
