We came early, and the staff kindly kept our bags while we explored the beautiful area around Nara. The tea ceremony was a lovely experience, and our room was beautiful, with a very nice semi-open onsen. Dinner was delicious, and each finely detailed dish was carefully explained. We were there over Christmas, and the staff made a special cake with candles. We don’t speak Japanese well, so there were a few communication barriers, but they still made us feel so special. This was one of my favorite parts of our Japan trip, and I highly recommend staying here. Thank you to the kind, wonderful staff!

We booked directly through Kotonoyado Musashino’s website, which I recommend. It has floor plans and pictures, and we could choose our room and attend the tea ceremony. Ours had a small private garden with a cherry tree that was just starting to bloom. The ryokan is basically inside Nara park, so we could walk to all the places we wanted to visit. It’s traditional Japanese style, with attentive, friendly staff and delicious full-board meals. The whole stay captured the peace and beauty of Japanese culture, exactly what we hoped a traditional Ryokan would be. We spent three nights and wished we’d booked longer. Best stay I’ve ever had, and we travel all over the world. We’ll definitely be back.
