The cleaner took my watch from under my pillow and never returned it. I suspect this may not have been their first time. I hope they’re fired.

The room was renovated a year ago, and it’s still clean now.

I enjoyed the massage treatment, and the therapist was very skilled. The building itself felt a little old, though the renovated rooms were clean. The futon mattress was on the thin side, but as a baseball fan I appreciated having BS broadcasts to watch. I stayed one night with two meals included. The hot spring was great, with freely flowing water and a strong sulfur smell that made it feel like a proper onsen. The food wasn’t really to my taste, especially the disappointing sashimi.

The bath water was cloudy white and fantastic. Even the open-air bath in our room had that cloudy water. The spring quality was superb, and we’d definitely like to stay again. Our family of six used two rooms with outdoor baths. Staff were polite and attentive throughout, which made the stay pleasant. Dinner was satisfying, without being an over-the-top course meal. It included rice and the portions were reasonable. Breakfast was more like a bento with assorted small dishes, and we found it unsatisfying. It might suit older guests or people with smaller appetites. That’s just our family’s view, but honestly, we were disappointed with the meals. A buffet breakfast with bread would have made us completely happy.

The sulfur smell throughout the building got me looking forward to the baths. The water was milky and cloudy, a mildly acidic sulfide spring, and warm enough to soak in for a long time. I stayed warm for quite a while after getting out. It may be a bit stimulating for some, but there’s also a clear, colorless bath. The staff were attentive, and the Nepalese man was working hard. I spent one night at Green Pearl Nasu. Staff were waiting in the lobby, helped with my luggage, and checked me in after I took off my shoes. Dinner was kaiseki, and the soy milk salt koji hot pot was delicious. The milk pudding for dessert was exquisite. Breakfast and dinner were served at a pace that let us eat and drink comfortably, and we were happy with both the flavors and portions.
