The staff are friendly, and the location is reasonably convenient for Niigata Station. I’d call the place serviceable, I suppose. The bath and shower are noisy, and getting the temperature right is a struggle with the two knobs. It swings easily from very hot to very cold, with little middle ground. I also tried a Zoom call on the hotel WiFi and it kept freezing.

Tanakasan at reception was especially outstanding. The bed was comfortable, the place was clean, and the location was great. I had an excellent stay and would come back.

The room smelled of smoke, and I couldn’t adjust the air-conditioning temperature. The furnishings felt very old-fashioned, and the bed was extremely soft.

We had to leave two days early because of the earthquake, and the hotel was accommodating about it. The service was good, and it’s a great hotel.

You can’t pay online, and cancelling still costs 80% of the price. The service was terrible. I’d stay somewhere else, especially if your plans could change.
