The location worked well for us, with lots of restaurants just a few minutes’ walk away. It’s near the port too, which was useful for getting in and out. We had a car for visiting sites in Sado, and the goldmine was about a 40mins drive away. The hotel seems to have been a wonder in the 60s. It’s been looked after since then, but feels a bit tired now. Our room was spacious enough, though the pillows were hard and thin. The view was great. There’s a big snack shop in the hotel and an onsen, though we didn’t use it.

The staff helped with local, procedural, and tourist questions, and we had a wonderful stay. The view of the bay and island was amazing. The classical Japanese tatami room was lovely, with an en-suite bathroom and shower, and there were both indoor and outdoor Onsen. I’d definitely recommend it!

The management is a total waste. The hotel itself would be okay in a Showa style, but this was the worst hotel in the world.
