I love that the hotel is all handmade and gives support to local artists and crafts. I’d like to see more places around Japan doing that.

The building and facilities are very old, which I found charming, though anyone who likes shiny, new places might prefer one of the other hotels nearby. The staff were friendly and accommodating despite the language barrier, and the food was good and beautifully arranged. I enjoyed my stay and would recommend it for a quiet, slow-paced break in the semi-mountainous area. It’s a little out of the way, but getting around is easy enough once you’re there. You can take a short cab from the train, though the distance is walkable. I didn’t take enough photos of the room or other spaces because I mostly focused on the food. Filthy millennial scum, I know.

Dinner was very good, and the onsen has several different pools. The lobby also has a lovely atmosphere, with lots of nice decorations.
