Nikko Station Hotel Classic

The hotel has a lovely old-fashioned, rustic feel inside, and the area was a pleasant, convenient place to get away from the city rush. It was great value and we had an amazing stay. Breakfast is free and tasty, with lots of choices. The options repeat each day, so it suits you best if you don’t mind that. Hotel guests can use the onsen until midnight. The location is handy for tourist buses, with stops right across the road, including one for Edo wonderland. Convenience stores are a seven-minute walk away. Staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms are a bit dated and have very minor wear, but they’re VERY CLEAN.

The location is perfect, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was okay. They list a bar, but it wasn’t open during either of our two nights. Since everything else in town closes around 7:30 pm, having a drink back at the hotel would have made the stay a bit better. The building is starting to feel dated and could use refurbishment. Our room was comfortable and reasonably clean, though the floor under the window was damp. The TV could have at least one English-language channel, even BBC World News. We found ourselves heading to bed at 7:30 pm.

The outdoor onsen was the best part, very relaxing. Staff were nice and helpful, and the hotel is close to both JR Nikko Station and Tobu Nikko Station. Our room had plenty of space, but the bed was narrow and too small to sleep comfortably. Breakfast was okay, though the food selection was limited. The room rate wasn’t cheap.

It’s easy to get around from this hotel, which is right across from the train station. But the room was old and smelled musty as soon as we entered, and the service was nothing special. Breakfast was the worst part: very few choices, small portions, and when the rice ran out, nobody refilled it. For this price, the hotel isn’t worth it. I wouldn’t recommend it.
