Nikko Teddy Bear House

The room was the largest I’ve stayed in during my time in Japan. The hosts were lovely, too. They picked us up at the station and brought us back when we were ready to leave. It was my birthday while I was there, and they made a meal and brought it to my room, which worked out perfectly. Highly recommend.

We’d definitely stay here again if we come back to Nikko. It’s in a beautiful natural setting, and Kirifuri falls is an easy walk away. There’s also a free ride into town and back in a tropical minibus. Charles and his wife were incredibly welcoming and hospitable. They went out of their way for us and gave us great tips for seeing the area. The hotel itself was clean and comfortable, and breakfast was a hearty Western-style meal.

I’ve stayed here twice and like the place. The owners are very hospitable and good with kids. They offered an extra bed and blanket for my one-year-old son. The hotel is still being renovated, but if you want a reasonably priced bed and breakfast, you’ll get that here. The staff speak English.

I really wouldn’t recommend staying here. We were told to eat dinner outside before checking in at 8 p.m., and then asked to leave at 7:30 a.m., even though checkout was supposed to be at 10. There are only two staff, the owner and his wife, and they handle everything. Station pickups and drop-offs depend on when they’re free. The driver also has to prepare breakfast and dinner, so we had to wait until they could take us out. On our visit, they didn’t have enough food supplies and told us to eat breakfast elsewhere. But they couldn’t take us until they had finished making breakfast for the other guests, so we had no choice but to wait. The owner isn’t honest, and his messages can’t be trusted. If I could, I’d rate the place minus ten. Worst hotel of my life.
