We read through the reviews before booking, and my family was glad we stayed. If you ask, they’ll pick you up at the station and take you pretty much wherever you need to go. Hard to beat a free taxi service. The room was spacious, and the futons were clean and comfortable. The bath was fine, comfortable enough, though not great. The place does need renovating, but the free shuttle helps make up for that. The garden is large, but full of wild animal droppings from monkeys, deer, frogs, and others. It’s a very realistic wildlife experience, though the garden needs daily upkeep.

The ryokan is in a secluded spot, so it’s very quiet, though there aren’t direct bus routes. They’ll drive you to and from the Nikko stations when needed, and the famous temples and Shinkyo bridge are about a 20-minute walk away. The building is old, but the staff are helpful and friendly, and the food is plentiful and delicious. Good value for the price, and a very nice stay overall.

Good value and close to the temple area, with friendly staff who speak English. They have a car service on call and a play area for children. Breakfast is Japanese style, with eggs and sausage available for English tastes.

The garden outside was beautiful, and the ryokan was quiet and especially nice for families. It’s older and hasn’t been renovated, but we still had a very good stay. The staff were friendly, the onsen relaxing, and the food excellent.

The price was very reasonable, and the onsen was great. They offer pickups to and from both Nikko stations, and the temples are very close. The service was nice, and there was lots of great food. A very good ryokan.
