Hotel Kanronomori

The onsen was amazing, easily 10/10, and I’d come back just to use it for the day. This is about the hotel room: the price didn’t seem to match the quality or comfort. We had two twin beds that felt hard as wood. I honestly wondered if they were mattresses or just box springs. The second night, we put the pink mattress cushion from the closet on top, and that was much better. Breakfast had lots of variety, but as a Westerner I struggled to find much that looked appealing and tasty.

We had a rental car, though there is a shuttle to annipuri ski resort. The hotel’s ski rental shop was very convenient and had good gear, with no issues. We stayed during ski season, and the room worked well for our family of 4. On our last night we upgraded to a room with an outdoor onsen, which was amazing. Breakfast was good and not busy.

The baths were lovely, and the food was okay, but I wouldn’t come here if you want restful sleep. Our room was terrible because the heater was extremely noisy and we couldn’t sleep. When we told the staff, they just said sorry and that there was nothing they could do.

I’m deeply disappointed in Kanronomori’s management, especially Chihiro Tamao. I had to cancel because of a severe family medical emergency, and I provided documentation. At first, management gave me the impression they would cooperate and said they’d talk to Agoda to authorize a refund. But when Agoda got in touch, they reversed course and rejected the request. It felt like they chose to profit from a tragic family situation instead of showing the hospitality and 'Omotenashi' they claim to offer. Telling a guest one thing over the phone or email, then doing the opposite when the agency calls, is dishonest. Peak season doesn’t excuse a lack of integrity or empathy. If you want a place that treats guests as people rather than just a credit card number, look elsewhere. I’ll share this experience on every travel forum. Truly shameful behavior from an establishment that’s supposed to be reputable.
