We stayed August 17-18 while climbing Mt. Gassan. The place is on the mountain side of the Mt. Gassan parking lot, and we could leave our car there until we came down the next day. The outside of the building is a little old, but it's well maintained. What touched me most was how warm the staff were. Many thanks to the person who checked us in and the two people who took such thoughtful care of us over dinner. And to the person in the suit, perhaps the president, I'm sorry for the trouble I caused with payment. Thank you very much.

I stayed two nights, from 24(R6).10.4(Friday) through 6(Sunday). The first night was in a twin room, then the second was in a four-person room, though it was for two people and had an extra bed. It was quite comfortable to sleep in. Breakfast and dinner were both tasty. The ingredients were fresh and the seasoning was gentle, with no saltiness at all. One thing to know: the toilet tank filling up made a very loud roaring sound.

The room had two bunk beds and could sleep four, though it felt just right for two and probably cramped for four. From the room we could see snow and the mountains. There's also a drying room, and you can change into ski gear and head straight outside. This is the closest accommodation to Gassan Ski Resort. The bath stays open until 11pm. It has just three washbasins, so it's small, but it wasn't too busy and we could use it at a different time. The parking lot seems to fit about 10 cars. We visited May 2nd and 3rd, staying the night before the Mt. Gassan ski trip I'd always dreamed of. At check-in a cheerful, friendly man helped us, and I later learned he was the company president. Even the president does cleaning himself. The staff were kind, polite, and easy to deal with, making it a really pleasant stay. The food was delicious, and between the meals and the friendly owner and staff, it felt like home. I'd stay again if I go to Mt. Gassan.

The view isn't much, and the large public bath is small. Still, the food is delicious, so I'd like to come back. It's a great place to stay for climbing Mt. Gassan, since you can leave your car parked while you climb. The two-person guest room was spacious and relaxing.

I heard the winter roads close because of heavy snow. I wondered about enjoying game dishes while looking at the snow, perhaps with deer around, but learned it's not possible: snowfall exceeds 10 meters and clearing it is extremely difficult. After years of dreaming about climbing Mount Gassan, I finally made it. I'm not very fit, so I stayed overnight in the Ubasawa area to start early, choosing this highly rated hotel because it's close to the lower lift station and I could leave my car there until the afternoon descent. The national highway turnoff toward Mount Gassan was easy to miss despite the signs. Beyond it, the trail road was wide and easy to drive, though quite steep uphill. The staff were incredibly kind and polite when I arrived, parked, and checked in. I had a loft room to myself. The toilet and sink by the stairs were spotless, with a bidet, and the first-floor bathroom was clean and nice too. I could use it in the morning. Both dinner and breakfast were carefully prepared and delicious. I kept the drinking moderate to be ready for the climb, but the local sake and wine were excellent. It felt a bit like an auberge, and I'd come back just for the food. The weather on Mount Gassan was perfect, and I reached the summit despite the physical challenge. Not a cloud in the sky, autumn leaves beginning to turn, and gentians in bloom, it was moving. I'd like to climb again and definitely return to this hotel.
