Minsuyku Sazanami (Sakushima)

We came for an early dinner on February 23rd. My mother can't eat shellfish because of an allergy, so we asked if they could make a boiled fish set meal that wasn't on the menu. They brought out a surprisingly high-quality fish, and it made for a memorable meal. Thank you so much.

It's a spacious, quiet place, though it's a little far from the port and the farthest one away. I found some hair in the room, and communication could have used a bit more care, so comparing it with reviews of other inns may be helpful. I was hoping to catch octopus, but the catch seems to have been poor and it wasn't local, which was disappointing. They offer rides to and from the port, which was a big help. I heard you can rent fishing rods, so I may try that next time. Bicycles are available too, but the brakes on mine were broken, so I'd recommend renting from a bike shop.

We'd been wandering around after the nearby restaurants had stopped serving lunch when a staff member here called out, "We're open!" The clam rice bowl was delicious. It's a ryokan, but apparently you can also stop by just to eat and drink.

I had lunch here and found the prices lower and fairer than at other places. There are plenty of dishes that are clearly local, like large clams, oysters and pufferfish. Pick something in season and you can get a tasty meal for good value. Maybe because it's away from Higashi Port, it wasn't crowded and I could take my time.
