That mountain and waterfall walk right beside the place was a real highlight, and the setting made it feel like a great-value premium stay. I was cycling alone in January 2018, which was probably silly, but the room was magnificent and the staff were warm, friendly, and very helpful. The restaurant attached to the accommodation served tasty food at reasonable prices.

You can get face towels at reception, and the bath itself is nice. Day visitors can bathe from 11:00-21:00 for ¥700, except on Tuesdays when it’s closed. There’s no view from the women’s bath, at least, because of the privacy fence.

The food really stood out for its quality and taste, and the staff were accommodating and helpful. My only reasons for taking off a star were a slightly musty room and what felt like the world’s thinnest futon. Otherwise, all good.

The central location made it easy to explore the area, and the service was wonderful. The food was great too. There are so many beautiful places here that you really need a full day to see them.

The onsen is like a public bath, so plenty of people who aren’t staying at the hotel may come in to bathe. The staff were polite and nice, and both breakfast and dinner were delicious. They don’t speak English, but they do have Google Translate. It’s a great place to stay.
