My room was very sparse, with a traditional mattress on the floor. After four nights there, I started thinking I'd be happier at home with fewer things in my room. The hotel is a little farther from the gondola, so there's a few extra minutes of walking. I heard there's a shuttle you can take, but I was fine with the short walk. The shared bathrooms were very clean and worked well for me. Breakfast is included too, toast, cereal, bacon and eggs. I don't think most expensive hotels include that. I had a great time at Yamane, and Boris and the staff were friendly and helpful. It's an ideal stay if you're after a budget option, a traditional experience, or both. The hotel is right next to the most popular onsen, which I used every day. I even chatted with some Japanese locals who were keen to practise their English. Going into the onsen naked with strangers felt a bit scary the first time, but sharing it was freeing and healing, especially when people asked me about my family and my late wife, who died of cancer this year. When I return to Nozawaonsen, I plan to bring my whole family and stay at Yamane again.

It's tucked a little out of the way, but still close to most popular places, with an Onsen right at the doorstep. The rooms are large, heated, and have plenty of amenities for a reasonable price. The staff have been extremely helpful, the accommodation's main asset. Breakfast is simple and included in the booking, so no complaints there. The check-in process was the weak point for me. There was too much pointless paperwork to fill in. In my opinion, checking in should be as simple as showing your passport.

The free shuttle to the ski lift was a big plus, and the staff were super helpful and friendly. Good value for money and a nice stay, though the same breakfast every day gets repetitive if you're there a long time.

The free breakfast was okay, and the rooms were fine. There was a smell in the hallway, though.

I booked at the last minute during a busy season in Nozawa Onsen village, when this was the last accommodation available. The ski resort is about a 15-minute walk away. It's a basic, dated two-star hotel, but my 10 sqm room felt more spacious than expected thanks to the recessed areas. The service earned my five stars. Manager Boris answered all my questions kindly and even offered me Ibuprofen when the village pharmacy was closed. I really appreciated that.
