The meals are modest, nothing fancy, but you can tell the manager puts in care and effort. The manager seems to work hard to keep the place tidy, but there were bugs, dirt, and mold everywhere. The whole lodge felt extremely old, almost like an abandoned house. It was simply too old, and I have to say it wasn’t good value for money.

The couple hosting the guesthouse were lovely, and the food was average for this kind of place, so I had no complaints there. The indoor bath was a relief since you can’t wash in the outdoor hot spring. The women’s bath had shampoo on the first day, but I couldn’t find any the next day. In the men’s bath, one of the three taps barely ran, whether using the shower or faucet. The shared second-floor toilets include just one Western-style option in the men’s room. The other one is Japanese-style, which you don’t see much these days. My room’s air conditioner didn’t cool enough even set to 23°C, though the fan that swivels up, down, left, and right helped me manage. I could also often hear footsteps in the hallway and the toilet door banging shut. It didn’t bother me too much, but I do wonder if it’s time for a renovation.
