Above all, the home-cooked food was delicious. The side dishes were thoughtfully made, and the freshly cooked white rice was especially good. I grow rice myself, and Takeya’s white rice really tasted great. I suspect they cook delicious koshihikari rice in a gas cooker. The photo shows the view from the third floor. I stayed two nights. Having the parking lot nearby was convenient, and the shuttle bus stop was close too. Even when it was crowded, I could get on and find a seat because I boarded at the departure point. The inn is old, as you’d expect, but the toilets have been renovated. There are also refrigerators and cups in the hallways on every floor for guests to use.
The meals were carefully prepared and delicious, and Takeya Inn was always a warm, welcoming place. I hope it continues to do well. I stayed there often 35 years ago, in several different rooms, but the inexpensive first-floor room was my favorite. They’d often invite me in just for tea. The Hato Sablé cookies they gave me back then tasted to me like they came from Nozawa Onsen rather than Kamakura. I’m very grateful, and I still think of those memories often.
The corner room on the third floor looks straight out at the festival site. The rooms are spacious, the restaurant is comfortable, and the dry room gets good ventilation. The landlady is very friendly, though she only speaks Japanese. I’d recommend the place to friends who speak Japanese.
The hostess was so kind and helpful, and both dinner and breakfast were delicious.
