Oyado Uemasa

The room had a magnificent view. Uemasa feels like staying with distant relatives, the couple running it are so warm and kind. It’s conveniently close to the Shinden bus stop from Iiyama station, the ski resort shuttle bus, and shinden local bath. The owner has a shampoo basket ready for you to take along. There’s a reservation system for the shower and bath on the ground floor. A fridge, microwave, and kettle are on the first floor, and there are separate men’s and women’s toilets and a sink on every floor. No lift. Skis, boots, and wet gloves can go in the drying room downstairs. We left our skis by the nagasak gondola, which made the walk up and down the hill a scenic warm-up.

The couple running this traditional Japanese hotel made us feel welcome the whole time, and we loved our stay. The lady is a great cook, and the guy makes his own delicious sake. You can ask for breakfast or dinner, and the small onsen in the hotel is fantastic after a day snowboarding. The rooms are nice, and the bus stop for the ski resort is just 50 meters away. Very good value for money. Hopefully we’ll come back 🤞🏽

The Uemasa family took care of everything we needed and then some. Their house is close to a very nice public bath, several places to eat, the Shinden bus stop, and Chuo bus terminal. It’s a typical Nozawa house, well suited to people who spend their days on the slopes and want a comfy tatami to sleep on. We’ll visit again.

After a full day skiing, it’s great to soak in the nearby onsen, just a 2-3 mins walk away, then head back to the inn for a home-cooked dinner. The hosts really are superb and make you feel welcome. Be sure to try their food. It’s good value for money, and I’ll definitely come back!
