AZ Inn Obu

The breakfast buffet was a real surprise for the price. Along with the usual dishes, there was mentaiko, tsukudani, and shirasu, and I ended up eating far too much. The room was a standard-sized business hotel room with a unit bath. It had a kettle, and there’s a microwave by the vending machines on the 4th floor. The coin laundry on the 8th floor is handy for longer work trips, with automatic detergent for ¥200 and the dryer at ¥100 per 30 minutes. I was in town for work from Tokyo and booked through Jalan. It was cheaper than the other hotel I’d reserved, so I canceled that booking and switched here. Parking is only ¥500 a day. My other place was ¥6,850 a night with free parking, and even after adding the parking fee here, this still worked out cheap. I’ll check availability here again next time I’m on a business trip.

The room was comfortable, and having Murasakurai right across from the hotel was handy. I chose this place because it was cheap, and the free breakfast had plenty of choices. The mentaiko was delicious!

I was here for work from October until early November, and it was a great stay. They kindly let breakfast start at 6 a.m. when I needed to leave for work, even though it normally begins at 6:30. They also lent me a bicycle for free. I was there for just a month, and I really appreciated the help.

Breakfast is free and has more than 20 choices, with Japanese and Western food, desserts, and yogurt. There’s also free newspaper service at the front desk and a coffee stand in the lounge. I checked in at 10:30 p.m. on Sunday. The hotel is right beside the station rotary, with a convenience store there too, and it’s a one-minute walk from JR Obu Station. I had a corner room on the 11th floor of the 11-story building, looking toward Nagoya Station with Oku-Ibuki in the back left. The room’s compact but fine for a stay, with a kettle, air purifier, fridge, hairdryer, several outlets, and Wi-Fi.
