There’s room for groups of up to 20 in this traditional two-story Japanese house, which you can rent entirely. The separate storehouse has a high ceiling and makes for a relaxing, unusual place to spend time. There’s also plenty of parking for several cars. From Ikebukuro, it takes about 80 minutes to reach Chichibu by Seibu Railway express, followed by around 35 minutes on a Seibu Kanko Bus from Seibu Chichibu Station. By car, Ogano Town is about 35 minutes from Hanazono IC on the Kan-Etsu Expressway.

I can’t make sense of the positive reviews after staying here. The kitchen was extremely unsanitary: the exhaust fan was greasy, the dishes were dirty and unwashed, and expired food was crammed into the drawers. The only bedding was a thin futon, and the sheets, which were stained, were just for the mattress, not leased ones. It wasn’t cheap, and I think a campsite would be a much better choice. The trip cost me my time, money, and the memories I’d hoped to make. They advertised Wi-Fi, but it was pocket Wi-Fi that connected randomly.

The garden is set up for BBQs, and there’s a lovely storehouse too. A gazebo for rainy days is supposed to be finished soon, so we’re looking forward to that. This renovated old house has a nostalgic feel, with the scent of wood all around.
