This was the most comfortable stay of my two months in Japan. The owners were a lot of fun to talk with in Japanese or English, and their hospitality felt like the best Japan has to offer. The moment that stuck with me came when I showed Miharu my bicycle route for the next day. She told me I should cut out one section because heat, timing, rain, age, and other factors could cause trouble. I swallowed my pride and took her advice. I rode slower than usual, stopped more often, and made time to see the coast. By 2 pm the wind and heat were intense, but I was close enough to Saiki to get a beer and smile about the day. I still limped into my next lodging completely worn out, but her advice kept the ride from becoming a nightmare. Thank you! 2023

The hosts made us feel at home, and it seemed like they ran the guest house because they enjoyed having company. They even picked us up at Tsurusaki station and took us back, and would suggest places to explore and eat. When we arrived, they offered small snacks, washed my dishes, and gave us the use of a full kitchen stocked with the things you'd find in a Japanese home. The price was good and the hospitality was amazing. A few downsides: the mattress was too thin for me, and I heard noise from both the street and other rooms at night. It's also a few stations from Oita station, and you need to wait for the hosts to collect you.

I'd definitely recommend this place if you're learning Japanese. Miharu is kind, and if you want to, you'll have lots of chances to talk with her in Japanese. She also volunteers as a Japanese teacher.
