Hotel Cabin Style

The room was smaller than a cubicle, with no space at all. The worst part was having to check out between 10am and 3pm so they could clean, which isn't ideal if you're staying more than one night. And it wasn't even cheap.

Access to restaurants and Okayama Station was easy, and there were three restrooms and shower rooms, so I didn't have to wait. The bedroom plus another room made the space bigger than an internet cafe, probably. I was glad this was the only available hotel when I decided on a last-minute sightseeing trip to Okayama. Reception was at Okayama Square Hotel, which was a bit unusual. The room arrangement seemed to be a gamble: some rooms were right beside the restroom, but mine was at the back. To get in, I had to climb a flight of stairs and bend down, which could be difficult for a larger person. The old-style lock was hard to close, and it never made a sound when it locked, no matter how many times I tried. The power outlets and USB ports were far away, so bring an extension cord. The TV remote batteries were dead; I bought replacements at a convenience store and got the TV working. I was excited to watch YouTube, but the sound cut out a few minutes into the video. Even from the back room I could hear showers, doors, and snoring, so earplugs are a good idea. My phone notifications were especially loud and woke me several times, then a neighbor's morning alarm woke me for good. The room had no air conditioning of its own, just what seemed to be an external unit, and it was still cold at night.

[Used in Fall 2025] This cabin was more compact and functional than I expected from the usual cabin-style image. It was a single room, standard upper type, split into upper and lower sections. There wasn't room to stand or move around inside, and once I was in bed it felt cramped and claustrophobic, almost like a capsule hotel. There was privacy, but it may not suit anyone who wants more space and openness. They've made some practical use of the limited space: a TV and valuables box at the back of the bed area, luggage and shoe space near the entrance, and a desk for basic work or getting ready. Still, this feels like a place meant just for sleeping. It may work for minimalist business or solo travelers focused on convenience and price, but check the facility details first if you want somewhere comfortable to relax in a shared space.

I thought I'd be able to get into my room at 3pm on a multi-night stay, but I had to wait until 4pm. Cleaning noise in other rooms continued after I checked in. The vacuum, people stomping around, and loud conversations could all be heard, even through earplugs. For this kind of accommodation, isn't it a serious problem if cleaning isn't finished by 6pm? This was the worst place I've stayed, and the low price doesn't excuse it.
