Sunrise Hotel Okinawa

Everyone we met on staff was friendly and very helpful, and the restaurants smelled wonderful whenever their doors opened, though we didn't get to eat there. The hotel was convenient and accessible, and we found taxis either with GO Taxi or by walking to the nearby market's taxi stand. There were some frustrations during our stay. The Wi-Fi stopped working halfway through, and our Softbank phones had a poor connection too. The room felt cramped, the pillows weren't comfortable, and the tiled floor, especially in the bathroom, made me worry about my young kids slipping. I was surprised our room had no carpet when some others did. For what we paid, it was fair value overall. The room could feel more spacious with some furniture removed.

The room is roomy for a Japanese hotel, but that's the only real plus for me. The building is old and seems to have been maintained as is. There are barely any well-placed outlets, and none beside the bed. I couldn't find hand soap, and there was a random wet towel behind one of the doors even though the weather was sunny. We tried the restaurant for dinner, but they were out of chicken. There was no clear indication whether the bathroom tap water was drinkable, and the sink was too shallow to fill a water bottle anyway. Don't expect a fancy bidet toilet. The elevator only reaches the fourth floor, and the long stick attached to the room key is awkward to carry and takes up space. I don't understand how this place is rated nearly four stars.

Wifi, LED lights, and the TV are the only things in the room that make this feel like a modern hotel. Otherwise, staying here is like stepping back to the 1970s or even earlier. It's one of the most interesting hotels I've stayed in.

The price is low for such a convenient spot, so I'd recommend it if you're on a budget and care more about practicality than luxury. You're in the middle of Okinawa City, with a bus stop almost right outside and plenty of clubs, restaurants, and convenience stores just a few minutes away. There was occasional street noise, but it was minor and never kept me awake. The staff were friendly and quick to help. The room was clean, though it had a slight cigarette smell. The bed wasn't especially comfortable, but it was okay.
