Dinner was fabulous and generous, an eight-course meal with sukiyaki. The rooms were comfortable and the Wi-Fi was good. There was only one pillow per bed, and with no blackout curtains on the windows, we were woken around 4:30 to 5:00 am. The onsen was okay, though the men’s outdoor bath felt like a metal cage, probably to keep the monkeys out. It’s a small place about 30 minutes from the Ogizawa starting point for the Tateyama alpine route. A good stay and good value overall.

A very welcoming hotel with a good-sized building, right at the foot of the mountain before the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine crossing. For around 8,000 yen per person per night, dinner and breakfast were included, and both were substantial. It was much cheaper than similar nearby hotels.
