Getting up there takes effort, but Miharashi-tei is worth the climb. The old house has been renovated and sits on the mountain overlooking the Seto Inland sea. At sunrise, the city shines like a river. I enjoyed my stay and being able to use the kitchen and bath. The cafe food was 4/5, though I had nowhere to rate it. Keep very quiet at night, since the place isn't soundproof.

Guests can spend time in the cafe area, which was a lovely shared space to unwind after exploring. The hot lemonade was excellent. I could easily have stayed there for a whole day without feeling bad about taking it easy. And the view, well, everyone has already mentioned it.

The walk up the steps with a heavy backpack was worth it for this beautiful place to stay, with its cafe and bar. The rooms are lovely, the staff so friendly, the draft beer delicious, and the views fantastic. Thanks for having us!

This hidden gem is tucked into the hillside above Onomichi bazaar walkway and the beautiful water-way. I'd highly recommend it. If you can store your large travel bags and bring a backpack up the stairs, that's the way to go, since the climb is a trek.

I booked 2 nights, and honestly, after seeing the negative comments about the staff, I want to say they aren't bad or unfriendly. If you want service or people bowing to you, go to Tokyo or Kyoto. You're in Onomichi, staying in a very old, historic guest house. The building is unique, the coffee is great, and the tatami rooms and futons are comfortable. And the view, oh my!
