APA Hotel Namba Ekihigashi

Finding the right exit at Osaka-Namba Station took me a while, but once I reached the hotel, everything was wonderfully convenient. Sennichimae, Dotonbori, Shinsaibashi, and Shinsekai are all close, with eateries everywhere. The room has what you need, including comfortable yukata robes, though it’s small and realistically only fits two suitcases. I found the mattress too soft, since I prefer a firmer one. Still, I loved being so close to the attractions and food.

The room was small, including the bathroom, and one window couldn’t be closed. The AC is centrally controlled, so guests can’t adjust it fully, which may be uncomfortable depending on your preference. Cleaning is skipped unless you put the door tag out early, sometimes by 8:00 AM, but nobody clearly explained that at check-in. At checkout, guests are encouraged to drop off the key, and it felt like they might be avoiding conversations with English speakers. A clearer explanation on arrival would prevent confusion. I wouldn’t recommend this to international travelers.

I loved being able to walk right into all the bustle and find so many restaurants nearby. Dotonburi is easy to reach from Namba station. The room was very small, with no storage under the bed, so there was hardly any floor space to move around. We made it work since we mostly just slept there.

Shopping streets are right beside the hotel, packed with restaurants, pharmacies, and Japanese food wares, and they connect to several other shopping streets. Namba train station is an eight-minute walk away, Kuromon market is five minutes away, and Dotonbori’s famous running man area is right next to the hotel. It’s a good base if you want to spend less time on trains. There isn’t much of a view from the room window. The room was compact, as is typical in Japan, and could be a challenge with large suitcases. The toilet had an automatic washer but no heated seat. Housekeeping happens every third day, with towels left at your door; you can ask for daily housekeeping if needed. Bottled water was only provided on the first day. I didn’t try breakfast, since there are many cafes nearby.
