Under the tracks, the market has what feels like the best street food in Osaka. Try the chijimi pancakes. Transfers between the JR Loop and Kintetsu Osaka lines are easy. And the station itself is something else: narrow, packed platforms above a maze of markets, with smoke, neon, vendors calling out, and the JR Loop Line rumbling overhead. The smell of grilled meat and kimchi hits as soon as the doors open. It’s chaotic and full of life, and it definitely makes you hungry.

Even after 10 in the evening, the station was packed. Finding the entrance took a confusing walk, despite signs everywhere. Google Maps made it harder too, with incorrect time estimates, glitches, and no way to pin the location. One of the most annoying stations I’ve dealt with.

I lost about five dollars overpaying for a ticket to Nara. The machine swallowed it, and I used the receipt to find staff. The first two tried to help, including a nice guy with a translator device. After I explained things, they passed me to another JR staff member, who seemed to think I was causing trouble and told me to buy another ticket. So don't overpay, because there seems to be no way to get the money back. Osaka has good people, but I really don't want to run into that JR guy again. Maybe it was because I was speaking English?

My friends and I walked into the wrong entrance because it was hard to tell where to go. We learned the JR and Kintetsu entrances are in different places.

I stayed in Tsuruhashi, so this was the closest station for me. It connects to the Osaka city loop, Kintetsu lines, and the subway. There are lots of shop lined lanes around it, almost like a market, where you can eat like a local.
