Hotel MyStays Otemae

The staff were polite, which was the only good thing I can say about this place. The rooms were extremely moldy and didn't look anything like the photos on booking. The air smelled awful and dusty, so we paid extra to stay at a different hotel instead.

We chose this place for our first visit to Osaka and stayed three nights, but I can't recommend it. The room had an old, musty smell, and there was mold all over the kitchenette and bathroom. Even the remote was filthy. It's a shame because the neighborhood is nice and quiet, with a train station and several convenience stores close by. The staff were nice, but that didn't make up for how unkept the hotel was. I hate leaving a bad review, but I don't want anyone wasting money here and getting sick from the mold.

The staff were friendly and easy to talk to, and they lent me a deodorizer that helped with the smell. Still, the room was so musty that we didn't feel comfortable using the cooking tools, kettle, cups, or anything else. We expected it to be a bit old, but that odor made the stay much worse. The lighting was dim, there was a hair right in the middle of the bed, and the faucet was broken and kept leaking. The hotel should have dealt with the smell before guests checked in.

The area has loads to do, and the castle is just a short walk away. The front desk always greeted us and wished us well when we came and went. Our place was spacious and clean, and having a kitchenette was great for the fresh fruit and vegetables I like to pick up at the store. It was quiet, with steady, strong Wi-Fi. There was a fairly priced laundry area and a vending machine downstairs, plus we had a balcony with room to hang laundry if the weather had been warm enough.
