Hotel Kojan

The location was the best part, close to the metro station and shopping streets, and the receptionist was cute and helpful :) The room was bigger than I expected after mostly staying in small Japanese hotel rooms, but I wasn't impressed overall during my 6 nights. There was a smell that I couldn't identify. I got used to it after a few minutes, but it was always there in the hallway and then in the room too. I only used the hotel to sleep, fortunately. My window faced another building about 1m away, so there was no view at all. I didn't like breakfast either. It was served in the Korean restaurant in the same building.

We were a family of two adults and two children, ages 6 and 11, and there was ample room on the fifth floor. It had a large cupboard for clothes, one double bed, two queen sized beds, and a small table with two seats. The neighbouring building was all we could see from the window, but there was enough light and we didn't come for the view. The staff welcomed us and were very helpful when we arrived, and I'd stay here again. Breakfast was in the adjoining Korean restaurant, with Korean and Japanese options. There was no buffet or Western-style food, even though we'd seen that on the website. The main town was a short walk away, as were several subways for getting further afield. We booked this for the start of our Japan trip.

The location worked well for food, drinks, shopping, and nightlife. There are lots of popular restaurants nearby, and plenty of little stores. The underground mall entrance is about halfway down the block, with an easy walk to the metro or train station. Parco and Shinsaibashi station are around 6-7 minutes away. At the same time, the twin room was pretty big for Japan and clean, and the toilet was fine. We only stayed one night and had no problems, though the mattress wasn't comfortable for us. The entrance is next to a Korean BBQ restaurant, so it smelled of BBQ and kimchi, but that didn't bother me. Service was great. We arrived around 10am before check-in at 3pm-4pm, left our bags, and the staff kindly helped bring all of them to our room.

The rooms feel stuffy, and laundry from the hotel doesn't come back until the next day after afternoon. There's also nowhere to hang out after checkout. Apart from that, everything was on point and I have no complaints. Recommended.
