Rainbow House

I booked well in advance, but when I arrived there was nobody there. I called the number and got no answer. That was completely inexcusable. I lost a few hours trying to find somewhere else to stay and had to pay much more than I’d planned. The location was inconvenient too, far from the city center and from any stations.

It was clean, but that was about the only good thing. For so much money, the room was tiny, with just a blanket for two people, and the view was of a house wall. Nobody really speaks English, either. Outside the window were fans for the air conditioners, running loudly all night. Not exactly relaxing. Next time I’ll take a park bench.

The property is a house with locks on the bedroom doors, a few minutes’ walk from imazato station. The day before my reservation, I got an email explaining how to use a code box by the door to get the key. Inside, there’s a shared kitchen and dining room, with some bread and fruit provided. The manager stopped by with fresh local produce, said hello and answered any questions. My room had its own air conditioner, a bed and somewhere to hang clothes, and that was it. It was very affordable and comfortable enough for me and my wife. There were four or five other rooms for rent, though, and the close quarters mean the other housemates could have a big effect on the stay.

We booked months ahead but still couldn’t check in. Nobody was there, the doors were locked and we couldn’t get hold of anyone. I’d advise people to stay away.
