We stayed four nights, including two days at Universal Studios, and this is a great hotel for a Universal Japan visit. It’s literally a two-minute walk from the theme park, and the rooms were spacious and comfortable, with heaps of room for our family of four. CityWalk had a good range of food, though it was a little pricey. A couple of extra thoughts: Universal should consider early entry for guests at official hotels. CityWalk can feel a bit boring after leaving the park, since there’s no cinema, bowling, or much other entertainment like there is in the USA. Also, the mattresses need replacing. They felt a little springy.

The staff were consistently polite and helpful, and they really seemed to go out of their way whenever we asked for something. Breakfast was a good-value continental spread, and the 12:00 checkout was especially convenient. The location is a big part of the appeal, and I’d definitely stay here again if I returned to USJ. I wasn’t bothered by the view, but calling it a “city view” feels generous when most of what we saw was HVAC infrastructure.

The room was the weak point for me. Its furniture looked worn and dated, the bed wasn’t especially comfortable, and the bathroom felt quite small. The condition didn’t seem up to what I’d expect from a four-star hotel, and the room and amenities didn’t really match the rating. There were some positives: the lobby is spacious, clean, and welcoming, the location works well for nearby attractions, and check-in was quick and smooth despite the hotel’s size. I’d give it three stars, mainly for the location and service.

The park view from our room was amazing, but we wouldn’t stay here again. This was easily the worst accommodation we had in Japan, and the high overall rating surprised me. Google reviews had steered me wrong for the first time. The room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke even though it was marked non-smoking. I can’t tell whether a previous guest smoked there or it had once been a smoking room and hadn’t been repainted or recarpeted. The windows don’t open, which made the smell worse. The room and hotel also felt very dated and worn. For the prices, it felt more like a two- or three-star hotel in a five-star location. Some staff were lovely, while others came across a little rude. Breakfast was okay, but expensive and crowded, and the buffet items weren’t replenished quickly enough. We chose the hotel for its high reviews and closeness to the park, but the whole hotel area, with six or more hotels, is only about 50-100m long and most of them have great views.

The concierge team made our stay especially easy. Thanks to Daisuke Hiraga and Honda for sorting out restaurant reservations and giving us personalized recommendations. Their attention and hospitality stood out. We spent seven days in Osaka, and the hotel was a great base. It’s right beside Universal Studios Japan and close to the train, so getting around and coming back was simple. Being able to walk back within minutes after visiting the park felt like a real luxury. We booked a luxury room with a city view, and waking up to that view each day made the stay feel special. The service, room, and location were all wonderful, and we’d absolutely stay here again if we return to Japan.
