Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Kounkaku

The staff were friendly and helpful, and our rooms were clean and smelled fresh. They were well appointed, and our room wasn’t far from the dining room, with no noise problems. The baths were lovely, and I tried all of them. The bath amenities were excellent too. We were four people, with our youngest just 14 months old, and he was welcome in both the baths and dining room. Breakfast and dinner were generous buffets with something for everyone. We had a wonderful two-night stay and wished we’d booked another night. We took the convenient bus from Sendai to the onsen and back.

I stayed for two days and was roughly satisfied. They were supposed to pick me up at the station but forgot. I waited 15 minutes, then asked someone at the information center to call. After that I waited another five minutes before the driver arrived.

Dinner was really good, and we enjoyed it a lot. There’s a magic show at night, too. The corridor smelled a bit smoky, but the room was okay and didn’t have a special view. The price was attractive, and the onsen was average. We’ll come back.

We had a pleasant stay at Kounkaku, a fairly large hotel in the Ooedo onsen group that seems especially popular with local families. The rates are reasonable and cover the room, onsen, meals, and entertainment. There’s even a free shuttle to Naruko-onsen station or as far as Sendai station.
