Tsugaike Kanko Hotel

One useful perk is that the ski lift ticket costs a little less here than at the ticket counter. The hotel is also right by the slopes, which is a great location. There are shared washlets and toilets, since not every room has its own toilet and shower. Guests who aren't comfortable showering at the onsen may find this inconvenient. A shared shower room outside the onsen would help. The shared toilets also looked dirty and need more attention. Breakfast was just average, with not many choices. These things could use improvement given the prime location.

The building is old but has had some renovation. My room was spacious and clean, and the staff were friendly. I rented skis right by the resort and could easily walk to the lifts. I was here on a ski tour. The food was a little modest, though for the tour price it was quite adequate. I'd stay here again if I get the chance to ski at Tsugaike.

I remember being served yakisoba for dinner, and the owner was very friendly. On a school trip years ago, my room was on the second floor with a little terrace-like spot. I'd open the window and let the snow cool the juice I'd bought, a fond memory. The slopes were right in front of me, so access was excellent. I also remember one male employee who smiled during the day, then was sobbing in the bathroom that night. I assumed he was a migrant worker from the Middle East, and figured he must have been homesick.

We held a training camp here and having unlimited access to the live studio was great. There aren't many convenience stores nearby, and drinks are expensive since it's a ski resort area, so it may not work well for a long stay.
