The rooms are really clean and warm, and the price is incredibly low for Otaru. That’s why I’m giving this one 5 stars. A few people may have left bad reviews because you’re expected to bring your own towel and toiletries. I think you can buy them at the front desk if you don’t have any. Since you’re in Japan, you can always visit a public onsen and then find a cheap bed to sleep in. This is one of the best hostels I’ve stayed at.

The location is convenient, the place is clean and the staff are friendly. My one suggestion would be to explain the lights-off time to guests. Around 3-4am, a guy kept switching the lights on and off and closing the door, and all that noise made me uncomfortable. Apart from that, it was a nice stay.

The place is stylish and very clean, in a charming area. Showers had strong pressure and everything provided made my two-night stay easy. Staff and fellow guests were friendly. The beds weren’t very comfortable to me, but it’s a fine place to stay.

I had no Wi-Fi for all three nights. There’s no staff to help from 12 to 8 PM, so I messaged them on booking.com. They only replied, “sorry there’s too many people,” and nothing was done to fix it. I’m sharing this because I want them to address the issue. Without the Wi-Fi problem, I would have given 5 stars.

They charged us 5000 yen to clean a carpet stain, which was fair. But when we went to pay that extra fee, they also tried to blame us for dirty sheets, and that made us feel awful. We were already there to pay for the cleaning. Sheets are something I’d expect to be washed between guests anyway, so I’m not sure why they brought them up. I have a feeling this is how they make their money. We won’t return, and I wouldn’t recommend staying here.
