Gajyun Guest House

The breakfast deserves a mention, especially the amazing fruit selection that kept me going all day. Staff were so kind, from their warm hellos and goodbyes to serving breakfast every morning. The location is lovely too, with nearby temples and cute ceramics shops around the corner, plus a short scenic walk to Kyoto’s best bits. It was also the most sociable hostel I’ve stayed at in japan, which was a bonus as a solo traveler. I’ll miss it and hope to come back on my next trip to japan. Highly recommend!

Jiro was a lovely host, and the location was just right, close to Kyoto landmarks without feeling too touristy or crowded. The owner makes a thoughtful, amazing breakfast every morning, the staff are kind, and the dorm was comfortable. I felt like I was staying at someone I love’s house. This place made my Kyoto visit so special.

The rooms are simple, but they do the job for sleeping. I especially liked the food and the little quaint garden, and the owner was very generous. I only booked one night and wish I’d stayed longer. 💜💜💜

The location is good, and breakfast is high quality. Sleep was the problem. The sound insulation is extremely poor, so I could clearly hear street noise and people talking and couldn’t sleep at all. The beds weren’t great either: the railings are so high that getting in is awkward, and the bed makes noise when someone else turns over. The staff are nice, but they talk loudly in the living room and make a lot of noise. Breakfast also starts too early, basically waking you at 7 a.m.
