The rates for a night in OTSU were reasonable, and I had a lovely view of Lake Biwa from my room. There's a lift, and the staff were very friendly, although the reception area is tiny and the hotel feels a bit cramped. I stayed here on my last trip to Japan. Communication was the main difficulty. The staff spoke English, but it was hard to get my message across or ask them for things. I managed the stay somehow.

The Keihan Railway station is right outside, so you can hear the station and trains. I don't usually see trams, so that was memorable. There are convenience stores nearby as well, which is handy. I came by car, but I entered my vehicle's name when I booked and didn't have to worry about parking.

Breakfast was tasty, and you could get a second serving of rice. The rooms were decent and not dirty, with a convenient store just a few minutes away. The hotel is close to Biwako-Hamaotsu Station. Parking requires booking a plan that includes it. In my room, the lights and outlets only came on after I inserted and turned the key. The bathroom had no body wash or shampoo, only a small bar of soap and a little pouch of rinse-in shampoo. Maybe that's meant to be eco-friendly and in line with the SDGs, but I like taking a bath in the evening and morning, and not having shampoo or other amenities then was inconvenient.
