I spent about a month here on a work trip. For the price of a business hotel, they do a pretty good job, with a lot to like. The onsen has no view of the sky from the outdoor bath, but the fresh air there is lovely. Rooms come with air purifiers, quick-drying high-end-looking hair dryers, and cables for Type-C, Micro-B and Lightning. You can choose your pillow too, which is handy if you care about how you sleep. The free welcome bar has alcohol, though no beer. There’s a vending machine for beer, and the bar’s late snacks from 9-10 PM are delicious. They’re available only until they run out, so get there early. Breakfast tastes good, but the selection is limited and got repetitive over a long stay. At 1,500 yen I found it steep, and with that menu 1000 yen seems about the most they can ask. Wi-Fi is free, though its speed drops a lot after 9pm. I’d also have liked an extra hand-drying towel in the room, beyond the bath hand towels.

There’s a convenience store and a big 24-hour supermarket nearby, so it’s easy to get what you need. Leaving was simple too, with no check-out process and no crowd. I checked in around 8:00 PM on a weekday, and a foreign staff member kindly showed me around. The all-you-can-drink welcome bar and free ochazuke were available only until 10:00 PM, so I ran out of time to enjoy them. If that’s something you want, arriving earlier seems best. The room and bathroom were a comfortable middle size and clean, and I appreciated the charging cables. There’s also a large public bath, plus a trouser press and microwave in the hall. I’d stay here again.

I come back for the hot spring whenever work brings me to Kumamoto. The water feels thick and smooth, and is great for the skin. The guest rooms are like other Super Hotels, though the bed is a bit hard and leaves my back aching. The staff are very helpful and polite, including the foreign staff. The evening drink bar would be even better with beer, even for an extra charge. There’s some in the second-floor vending machine. They offer two snacks, and I especially like the dried bananas. Dashi chazuke starts at 9 PM, but there’s always a line. If you’re having a drink in your room, you can watch the live broadcast on TV and go down when it’s quieter. Breakfast has fewer choices than at other Super Hotels and keeps disappointing me, so I took off a star. The rest is great.

We’re often in this area for my child’s club activities, and this is my favorite hotel around here. The rooms are soundproof enough that hallway voices don’t come through, unlike at cheaper hotels. The free nuts and banana chips are a nice extra. You can get all sorts of soft drinks and alcohol for free until 10 PM, which is fantastic. Arrive early to make the most of it. Compared with a night out drinking at an izakaya, the price feels incredibly reasonable.

I hadn’t been back to Kumamoto in a while, and this hotel made a lovely impression. It looked stylish right from the entrance, and the room was clean. There were plenty of amenities, and the staff were really friendly. I liked being able to pick my pillow, and the Refa hair dryer was a welcome touch. It was also close to the nostalgic Hirai bento shop. The airport was about a 10-minute taxi ride away, but the hotel was relaxing enough to make up for that inconvenience. I’ll come back. Thank you.
