The baths are pretty run down, and the Wi-Fi wasn't working. There was no safe in the room, and you have to roll out your own futon. It's a very old onsen, but it was the only one in town along our route. At least the rooms have air conditioning, thank goodness. Lots of locals come for their daily bath, and there's a weekly herbal bath if that's your thing, including on the weekend.

The onsen water was just right for a relaxing soak, and the receptionist was warm and friendly when I got there. Hotel Kamuiwa is a long way from the city center, about a 30-40 minute walk from Rumoi JR Station. In winter the walk can be twice as hard, especially when the snow gets knee-deep. The baths are showing their age and could use renovation, but I still enjoyed the visit. I especially recommend trying the medicinal onsen.

The meals were tasty and filling, with both breakfast and dinner included, and the hot spring was nice and hot. It's an old hot spring hotel, but my first stay there was comfortable and I didn't run into any inconveniences. Parking is free, the place is well kept, and I was glad to find massage machines. It's inexpensive, too.
