I chose this hotel for a work union meeting because it fit my limited budget for a stay, banquet, and hot spring. It’s basically a regular business hotel with a hot spring attached. If you want a hot spring inn mainly for sleeping, I’d say a single room here is the better choice. For my own needs, it deserves five stars, but I gave it four across the board because people might wonder if it really merits five. If you judge it strictly, maybe it’s a 3.5. It’s good as a business hotel, though just average for a trip.

The room was a letdown because it had no USB outlets. Breakfast was vegetable curry when I stayed, and I found it too bland. Dinner is served at the neighboring hot spring facility, but last orders are early, at 7:30 PM. You can use that facility’s hot spring as well. The sauna has an unusual arrangement: even though a sauna mat is provided, you still need a bath towel. The hotel didn’t mention that at check-in, and it would’ve been nice to have two bath towels.

On a cold winter day, nothing beats a hot spring ♨️! The open-air bath at the day-trip facility is hot enough to warm you up even when it’s snowing. The restaurant’s mapo tofu and shrimp chili are delicious too!

The breakfast was delicious, with rice cakes and local Yamagata dishes, and I ate a lot. The regular business hotel room was pretty typical, but there’s a large public bath on the first floor. Hotel guests can also use the neighboring Yu-Cherry for free, including its sauna and open-air bath. I stayed while sightseeing in Sagae and will definitely come back when I visit again.

I live nearby, so I haven’t stayed at Cherry Park Hotel, though I often go to the attached Yu-Cherry. Even when the parking lot is full, it doesn’t feel crowded inside. The day-trip hot spring is apparently very popular, drawing around 1 million visitors a year in Sagae City. I’m sure the hotel is nice too. There are two large indoor baths with different types of spring water, plus one open-air bath. The spacious saunas come in two types, high and low. ♨️
