The onsen and the staff were both great, and their English was great too. The views on the way to and from this ryokan are breathtaking. Just behind it, the river has natural hot springs, so you can spend time in the water all year. I can't wait to come back. This place has to be one of Japan's best-kept secrets.

A tucked-away, family-run onsen with really friendly people. The food was very good and had lots of local items. The outdoor bath is beautiful, and you can make your own onsen in the river.

The meals made great use of mountain ingredients, with seasonal options like mountain vegetables in spring, mushrooms in autumn, and game meat in winter. I also loved the homemade tofu, bread, and yogurt at breakfast. The bath is open around the clock. The indoor one is spacious, clean, and relaxing, and you can rent a private outdoor bath by the hour. My son and I found the inn homey and restful. The rooms and other amenities aren't especially new, but the place felt genuinely heartfelt. The drive from the city is a long mountain road, narrow and hard to pass on in places, so take care. If it's your first winter visit, be especially cautious because the signboards will be gone. It's far from home, but I'd like to come back in another season. Thank you for looking after us.

The building is impressive and beautifully made, clearly sturdy enough to handle the more than five meters of snow that apparently fell this year. Inside, it's lovely and sparkling clean, with hammocks, benches, and water shoes lined up at the entrance. I could see young people coming to enjoy Akiyama Valley as well as the secluded hot spring. I made the trip on winding, narrow roads to visit the hot spring. They don't seem to usually allow day-use bathing, but they kindly made an exception for me, and I'm very grateful. The inn is run by a warm young couple who treated me with real care, even though day visitors are often treated lightly. The gentle water and their kindness made me so happy. They offered me a sandwich made with their homemade bread and refills of their delicious spring water, and since I was traveling in a campervan, they asked if I needed anything. It seemed the inn was closed that day for the first time in a while, so I felt bad about that. I travel with my cat and rarely get to stay overnight, but I'd love to stay here someday. A day trip feels too short for such a wonderful place. I'd like to stay several nights and enjoy stream climbing and trekking. The open-air bath can be reserved privately, and piano music seems to play through the building, where it resonates beautifully. I was completely satisfied with my visit.
