The walk to the beach was easy, and there was a lovely garden with a pond. Our rooms faced the Pacific, and the hotel stayed pleasantly warm without feeling stuffy. We were there over New Year's Eve and had a surprisingly excellent dinner, especially for such an inexpensive hotel. Breakfast from the buffet was better than expected too. It's a simple place, with standard tatami rooms and a shared bath downstairs. We didn't come across any Wi-Fi, though it was New Year's and we weren't working or making calls. They held a raffle, and our daughter won a hot plate set.

The bath is refreshing and leaves your skin feeling slightly smooth. The water is clear and has no smell or color, at around 41°C. There are eight washing stations and a tub big enough for roughly ten people. I went on a weekend afternoon and saw several couples there. It's next to Hasunuma Coast Park, with a large parking lot. Day bathing is available until 3 p.m., though reservations close at 2 p.m. The evening session runs from 6 to 11. It costs 700 yen, and shampoo and other toiletries are provided. It seems to be an artificial hot spring with minerals added. I had a nice, relaxing soak.

We got a room-only rate of about 5,000 yen per person, which felt like good value for such a spacious, quiet place. It would work well before or after fishing or other seaside plans, and we'd happily come back. Our trip was from Osaki in Tokyo to Oami Station, then a friend drove us to Hasunuma Garden House Marino. We stayed in late November before a fishing trip, and because we had to leave at 3:30 the next morning, we paid the day before and just left the key at the front desk. Check-out was easy. The building and rooms are old and have a Showa-era feel, but there's a nostalgic charm to them. Our tatami room was much bigger than two people needed, easily enough space for about eight. It had a small refrigerator, TV, and Wi-Fi. Towels, toothbrushes, razors, and other amenities were supplied. There was no bath or shower in the room, but there is a large public bath. Tea and cups were provided, though no coffee. The hotel has vending machines and a convenience store inside, but there don't seem to be any stores nearby, so bring supplies or drive. We arrived and left in the dark, so we couldn't take in the view. It looked like the ocean was visible from the window, and daytime would probably be nice. Tonoha Beach is right in front, with Hasunuma Water Garden, Tennis Garden, and Park Golf Course next door. The area seems likely to be busiest during summer holidays.

For the price, this was very good value. The birds in the pond were adorable and calming, and someone even called to offer an umbrella because it was raining. Breakfast was simple for New Year's, with osechi and ozoni, and the breakfast venue and staff were excellent. The nearby pool is huge and looks like it'd be fun in summer. I had a cottage. The floor was gritty with sea sand, so I vacuumed it myself using the cleaner in the smaller room. The kettle smelled so bad I couldn't use it, and I couldn't tell whether the problem was the water or the kettle. No one explained when to eat the rice dish that came with dinner, even though I only needed to light it. There was dust on the window frames, and the sofa was stained. I also realized later that some windows hadn't been locked, which scared me. I can put up with small issues when staff are kind, but it was disappointing that people didn't even say hello as I passed after dinner. I canceled my consecutive-night stay and had to pay a cancellation fee, though the value for money was still very good.

I got told off for using a radio-controlled car in the parking lot. I won't stay here again. Maybe a short stay is fine, but what do you think?
