The bed was so comfortable, and I had a refreshing evening in the rooftop sauna, with a nice sea breeze. I stayed at GRAY for one night in early September. It's near Fifth Avenue, with restaurants close by. Inside, the exposed structural elements give the place a stylish feel, and the bathrooms look great too. In the morning I worked at the desk, looking out over the river and the US military base.

I booked this place while sightseeing in Sasebo because I wanted somewhere with a sauna. Weekday discounts in February made the price reasonable. The unmanned setup uses a password sent to your phone to lock and unlock the door, and check-in is done with a QR code. My room this time was the Green room with steam mist. There were potted plants around the room, which made it relaxing. The mist was ready in about 25 minutes. It was around 45°C, but the shower room is compact, and it felt hotter than the steam saunas I'm used to. The rooftop sauna lets you do self-loyly. It felt cooler than the thermometer suggested, but was still really pleasant. I first rented the room exclusively; later, when I used the sauna with other guests, chatting with them was a great experience. Descriptions of both rooms are on the website Note. A link to the official site would make them easier to find. It'd also be nice to have a home projector and a paper guide for the washing machine. And the official website could list the attached cafe's phone number as a contact.

I stayed in the Gray room, one of the three room types. Its bare concrete made it feel a little cold in winter, but I liked the colors, shifting from gray in the living room to pale blue in the bathroom. The look felt stylish and comfortable. I spent the day working, burning aromatherapy, doing aroma loyly, and enjoying an aroma bath. It was a very comfortable stay.

The reviews sounded good and the photos looked nice, but I was shocked when I arrived. I left after just 10 minutes, even though I'd already paid. Getting up to the fourth floor meant climbing a steep staircase. In the room, they were making a miso sauna in the shower room, the toilet had only a roll-up curtain for a door, and the top bunk was half-finished. I won't go back.

I came to Sasebo specifically for the sauna. From outside, I wasn't sure this was even a place to stay, but inside I found a beautifully renovated room with a sauna. The oven, kettle, and lamp were all Balmuda, and the toiletries, including the shampoo, were from an organic cosmetics line, which was a big plus. Best of all, the private in-room sauna was amazing. I've decided this Nagasaki accommodation is somewhere I definitely want to stay again.
